The National Museum of Agriculture in Szreniawa is located on the fringes of the National Wielkopolski Park near the road leading from Poznań towards Wrocław and Zielona Góra. It became open to the public on August 29, 1964. After receiving the status of a national museum in 1975, it soon became the main institution of agricultural museology in Poland, covering processing and agricultural-food industry as well as rural (farm) building. The Museum accumulates historical objects dealing with the development of agriculture from all over Poland.
Besides accumulation of historical objects and materials, the Museum focuses on the scientific research, protection and preservation of the acquired collections. On the basis of its collections the Museum organizes stable and temporary exhibitions and carries out disseminating activities.
The main objective of its activities is the history of Polish agriculture, processing and agricultural-food industry including rural crafts and problems of rural social culture in relation with the work, living and cultural requirements of rural population.
As collection and research interests of the Museum extended, some of its issues were gradually taken over by newly set up specialized local branches of: flour-milling (in Jaracz), wickerwork and hop-growing (in Nowy Tomyśl), hunting and protection of the environment (in Uzarzewo) and bee-keeping and other useful insects (in Swarzędz).
